Em Elliott

Em Elliott hails from Cincinnati, Ohio and has been working in Georgia for nearly five years. Em came to work for Georgia Equality in August 2010 through the Lutheran Volunteer Corp (LVC), a year long program that unites full-time Volunteers with non-profit organizations to work for peace with justice across the nation. Em began working for LGBT rights in college as an active member of Wittenberg University’s GSA and was an advocate against hate crimes on the campus and surrounding area. Em graduated from Wittenberg University with a B.A. in Sociology in 2010.

Em Elliott MLK Day 2013Em’s work with GE from 2010-2015 was focused on the Campaign for Safe Schools, working to enact anti-bullying policies through grassroots community organizing throughout the state of Georgia. Em also has experience in anti-bullying and school-to-prison-pipeline work, as well as their extensive work in Georgia schools and supporting Gay-Straight Alliances and other LGBTQ-centered clubs. Em was a steering committee member of the National Safe Schools Roundtable from 2012-2014, and has received training from the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, the National Gay-Straight Alliance Network, Advancement Project, Dignity in Schools and many other GSA and safe school advocates. Em also works closely with the Georgia Safe School Coalition members by strengthening existing relationships between the GSSC members and current Georgia GSAs.

Em recently moved to Knoxville to pursue a carpentry apprenticeship but they are staying involved with planning for the Georgia GSA Youth Summit as well as the QYLTS Action Camp.
